Softball Earns Sweep Over Purchase

MADISON, N.J. - The Rangers swept Purchase College on Wednesday at the Drew University Softball Complex, winning 4-2 in the opener before capturing the nightcap 10-2 in six innings. Drew slugged 22 hits on the afternoon, including 14 in the second game. Freshman Skyler Colarusso and senior Cara O'Leary each tossed a complete-game for the Rangers.

Game 1 Highlights
• The Rangers fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but Colarusso settled in, blanking the Panthers the rest of the way.
• Drew cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-double from sophomore Adriana Rodriguez.
• Sophomore Jasmine Vera doubled in the trying run in the fourth before the Rangers took the lead with two in the sixth.
• Freshman Renata Primmer started the rally with a leadoff single before Vera stroked a one-out single to load the bases. Freshman Madi Precht then drew a go-ahead, bases-loaded walk before classmate Paxtan Perry provided an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.

Game 2 Highlights
• Drew struck first in the nightcap, scoring three in the bottom of the second, including a two-run single from freshman Kaylie Kaffl.
• Purchase answered with two in the third inning before the Rangers opened up a cushion with a five-run fifth that also included three errors. The inning featured an RBI-double from freshman MaKayla Sosa and a run-scoring triple from Vera.
• Drew tacked on two more runs in the sixth, and a single from freshman Jenna Du Plooy brought the game to an end due to the eight-run rule.
• O'Leary ended the game strong, retiring 11 of the last 14 batters she faced while allowing just one hit over the stretch.

Top Performers
• Vera finished the day 4-for-7 with three RBIs while Perry went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs.
• Senior Katie Grodski also posted a 4-for-7 performance that included three runs scored. 
• Colarusso (3-0) threw the longest outing of the season while posting her second career complete game. She struck out four and scattered four hits.
• O'Leary (5-6) worked her 12th career complete game, striking out three as part of a six-hitter.

Next Up
The Rangers return to Landmark Conference action on Saturday, when they host Elizabethtown College at 12:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
