MADISON, N.J. - The Rangers scored the game's first goal, but it wasn't enough as William Paterson University handed Drew a 3-1 setback in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.
The Blue and Green struck off a penalty corner with 9:09 left in the first quarter. Sophomore
Carly Schiller sent the ball in to senior
Sami Strathern, who fired a shot from the left elbow. The ball deflected off a defender before Schiller poked it in from the left post for her second goal of the season.
The Pioneers (3-2) pulled even before the end of the quarter, however, scoring with 1:56 on the clock. Neither team scored in the second quarter and it was a 1-1 game at the half.
William Paterson broke through with two goals in the third quarter, then added an insurance tally in the final period.
Freshman
Bridget Kenny made six saves in goal for the Rangers (1-4) while Kerianne Brown stopped three shots for the Pioneers.
Drew returns home on Saturday, when it takes on Notre Dame (Md.) in another non-conference outing.
