Stevens Rallies Past Baseball

HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Drew University baseball team jumped to an early 3-0 lead, but Stevens Institute rallied for a 6-4 victory Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match-up.

Seniors Max Felsenstein and Bryan Reagle led the Rangers (2-1) with two hits apiece while classmate Brandon Radd tossed three scoreless innings of relief.

The game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth, when Chris Silos belted a go-ahead three-run homer for Stevens (2-1).

The Rangers jumped on Duck starter Ryan Shea with three hits in the first inning. Felsenstein and senior Matthew Lange started the game with back-to-back singles before junior Cole Bosch drew a walk to load the bases. Felsenstein scored on a wild pitch before Lange crossed the plate on a double play. Bosch would eventually score on another wild pitch to give Drew its three-run lead.

Stevens chipped away with single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings versus Ranger starter Grant Purpura, who left the game after four innings pitched.

The Rangers managed to put the go-ahead run on second in four different innings but were unable to take the lead. In the meantime, Shea settled in after the first, tossing five shutout innings from the second through the sixth.

Radd came on in the fifth and allowed just three hits while striking out three without a walk. Junior Kyle Tamburri took the mound in the eighth for his Ranger debut, and after getting the leadoff out, the Ducks put two men on following an error and a walk, setting up Silos' shot.

Drew refused to go away, however, and threatened in the ninth. Senior Brent Lincoln led off with an infield single and pinch runner Joe Webber eventually scored on a single from Felsenstein. But reliever Alex Smith induced a game-ending double play.

The Rangers are back in action next Wednesday, when they visit William Paterson at 3 p.m. in another non-conference tilt.
