Big First Half Lifts Vassar Over Women's Lacrosse

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College women's lacrosse team outscored Drew 9-2 in the first half and handed the Rangers a 13-6 setback in non-conference women's lacrosse action Friday evening.

Sophomore Hailey Simmons posted two goals and two assists for the Rangers (2-1) while senior Allie DiDario tallied two goals, seven ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Sophomore Jenna Draney posted one goal and one assist while classmate Meliha Emini posted four draw controls. Junior Katiana Michalski made eight saves for the Rangers.

Caeli Porette notched four goals while Kelly Pushie recorded three goals and two assists for Vassar, which was playing its season opener.

Porette scored the game's first goal with 27:07 on the clock before Simmons tied it two and a half minutes later. But that's when the Brewers ran off a 7-0 run over a 15-minute stretch to open up a gap. Draney broke the drought for the Rangers with 2:39 on the clock to make it a seven-goal game at the break.

The hosts continued to pull away in the second half, starting with a 4-1 run that pushed their lead to 13-3 with 20:43 remaining. Drew scored the game's final three goals, as Simmons, DiDario, and freshman Maggie Nealley scored once apiece in the final 17:40.

The Rangers pick up their schedule with a pair of games on their Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., taking on Lebanon Valley on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and Gywnedd Mercy at 8:30 a.m.
