MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University softball team lost a pair of games to Stevens in its home opener on Tuesday at the Drew University Softball Complex.
The Ducks (4-0) won the opener 10-0 in five innings before capturing the second game 6-2.
Sophomore
Madi Precht went 2-for-4 and also had an outfield assist in the nightcap for the Rangers (6-8).
In the opener, Stevens built a 5-0 lead through three innings, then broke it open with a five-run, seven-hit fourth.
After sophomore
Renata Primmer led off with an infield single in the bottom of the first, the Rangers were held without a hit until the fifth, when freshman
Julia VanLiew doubled.
Freshman
Bailey Comeau tossed all five innings for Drew and finished with three strikeouts in her home debut. Jess Masur tossed a two-hit shutout for the Ducks.
In the second game, sophomore
Emilee Marshall held Stevens to just one run over the first four innings. But the visitors scored five in the fifth to make it a 6-0 game. Precht prevented further damage when she threw out a runner at the plate to end the inning.
The Rangers did not go quietly, however, and scored single runs in each of the last two innings. In the sixth, sophomore
Paxtan Perry singled home a run to break up Erin Kreis's shutout. Then in the seventh, sophomore
MaKayla Sosa singled and stole second before scoring on a single from Primmer. But that's when reliever Cara McMahon was summoned in relief and recorded the final out.
Marshall was charged with her first loss of the season after winning her first four decisions. She went 4 2/3 innings before freshman
Brianna Seals came on to blank the Ducks over the final 2 1/3.
The Rangers open Landmark Conference play on Saturday, when they host Moravian in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.Â
