FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Rangers split a pair of games on the second day of its Spring Break trip to Florida on Monday.
Drew (2-4) opened the day with a wild 17-12 victory over Finlandia in which it pounded out 20 hits. The Rangers closed the day with an 8-3 loss to Kenyon.
Verus Finlandia, the Rangers rallied from 5-4 and 9-7 deficits as the lead changed hands four times throughout the game.Â
Drew built an early 4-0 lead, scoring three in the first and one in the second. Junior
Sophie Sirota ripped a two-run single in the first while classmate
Adriana Rodriguez belted an RBI-double in the second.
After the Lions went up 5-4, the Rangers answered with three runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run triple from sophomore
Julia Sinatra.
Finlandia took a 9-7 lead after a four-run third. But Drew went in front for good with a five-run fifth. Freshman
Julia VanLiew got things started with a leadoff double before scoring on a single from sophomore
Renata Primmer. Sophomore
Madi Precht followed up with a bunt single before two runs scored on an error, putting the Rangers up 10-9. Sirota knocked in another run with a single before junior
Jasmine Vera capped the big inning with a sacrifice fly.
The Lions answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 12-11 game, but Drew opened up some breathing room with another five-spot in the seventh which included a triple from Rodriguez and RBI-singles from sophomore

Freshman
Brianna Seals started in the circle for the Rangers and tossed three innings. Sophomore
Emilee Marshall pitched two innings to pick up the win before freshman
Bailey Comeau come on for the final two innings, allowing just an unearned run to record her first career save.
Eight of Drew's nine starters ripped more than one hit, including Sirota, who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Primmer (3-6, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Palmieri (3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) also stroked three hits each while Rodriguez and Precht scored three runs apiece. Sinatra finished with three RBIs.
Versus Kenyon, the Lords never trailed after taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Drew pulled to within 2-1 in the bottom of the first when Precht walked, stole second and third, and scored on a groundout.
Kenyon scored two more runs in the top of the second and another in the third to go up 5-1. The Rangers refused to go away, however, and scored two in the fifth inning that included a double from Primmer to make it 5-3. But the Lords shut out Drew the rest of the way and added three insurance runs in the seventh.
Sophomore
MaKayla Sosa went 3-for-3 to lead the Rangers at the plate against Kenyon while Precht had three stolen bases. Comeau tossed a complete game for the Rangers.
Drew continues its trip on Tuesday, when it takes on Clark at 9 a.m. and Grove City at 11 a.m.
