Record-Setting Women's Hoops Season Ends in ECAC Final

RADNOR, Pa. - The Drew University women's basketball team saw its record-setting 2019-20 season come to an end in the final of the ECAC Championship with a 75-43 loss at top-seeded Cabrini University on Sunday.

The seventh-seeded Rangers finished the season at 18-10, setting program records for both wins and winning percentage (.643). The team also posted its best Landmark Conference record (7-7) in team history and earned its first postseason victories since 2009-10 with its two ECAC tournament wins.

Freshman guard Joey Meyers led the Rangers with 13 points, seven rebounds, and six steals to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team along with junior guard Julia Ramos. Meyers finished the season leading all Landmark Conference freshmen in scoring (13.6 ppg) and netted the third-most points (381) by a first-year in team history.

Ramos added 10 points while junior center Erin Frederick tossed in eight points. Sophomore forward Cecelia Kracht blocked three shots to finish the year with 76 swats, just three shy of the school record set by Emma Bascom in 1993-94.

Meagan Matthews was named tournament MVP for the Cavaliers (22-8) after posting 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and four blocks.

Cabrini never trailed after opening the game on a 12-4 run and led the Rangers 19-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Drew made a push at the end of the second period, scoring seven straight points after trailing by 11. Ramos drained a 3 with 2:36 left in the half before Meyers converted a steal into a fastbreak lay-up. Ramos then knocked down a pair of free throws with 1:13 on the clock as the Rangers pulled to within 28-24. The Cavaliers scored the last bucket of the half and led 30-24 at the intermission.

The Rangers drew to within four again early in the third quarter, when Meyers hit a pair of free throws 23 seconds into the period. However, Cabrini answered with seven unanswered points and led by at least 10 the rest of the way. The hosts scored the last six points of the quarter to go up 53-36 heading into the final stanza, when the Cavs pulled away.
