Big Second Quarter Vaults Rangers Over William Paterson

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's basketball team outscored William Paterson University 28-8 in the second quarter en route to a 76-55 non-conference victory Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym.

Four different players scored in double figures for the Rangers, who improved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

The win marked victory No. 61 at Drew for Head Coach John Olenowski, who tied Brittany Gaetano (2010-16) for the most wins in team history.

Senior guard Sekya Campbell posted 17 points and seven rebounds and was one of three Rangers to come off the bench to hit double digits, along with senior forward Lauren Cruse (13) and junior guard Katrina Wojtowicz (12).

Junior guard Joey Meyers posted her fourth-straight double-double to open the season for Drew, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Brianna Brooks led the Pioneers (0-3) with 12 points.

The Rangers led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter before breaking it open with their big second period. Drew led just 20-19 with 7:10 remaining before erupting for a 24-2 run to close the half. Seven different Rangers scored during the outburst, which included four 3-pointers and was capped by a triple from Meyers in the closing seconds that made it a 44-21 game at the break.

Drew saw its lead reach as much as 28 (58-30) late in the third quarter. The Pioneers used a late rally to pull to within 16, but the Rangers iced it with a late 9-2 run.

The Blue and Green are back in action on Tuesday, when they visit cross-town rival FDU-Florham at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
