Rangers Cruise by Juniata

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's basketball team opened up a big lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, earning an 80-59 Landmark Conference (LC) victory at Juniata College Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore guard Joey Meyers notched a season-high 20 points to go with eight rebounds and five steals to pace the Rangers (3-1, 3-1 LC), who completed a season sweep of the Eagles. Also scoring in double figures were senior forward Erin Frederick (14 points), junior guard Sekya Campbell (14), and sophomore guard Katrina Wojtowicz (10).

Gracie Stouffer posted 15 points and eight rebounds for Juniata (0-6, 0-6 LC) while Madison Colyer added 14 points and 12 boards.

Drew now finds itself tied with the University of Scranton for first place in the Landmark Conference standings heading into the final week of regular-season play.

With the Ranger coaching staff out for the third game in a row due to COVID-19 protocols, new Assistant Coach Bobby Timinski guided Drew to its second straight win.

The Eagles led by one before Drew closed the final 2:44 of the first quarter on a decisive 12-2 run, while taking the lead for good. Five different Rangers scored during the spurt, with junior guard Micela Genua dropping in a lay-up with six seconds left to put her team up 23-14.

Juniata trailed by six with four minutes left in the second quarter, but Drew used a 9-3 surge to push its advantage to 12. The Rangers led 35-25 at the break.

Drew gradually pulled away in the second half, extending their lead to 20 late in the third quarter before leading 59-40 heading into the final period. The Eagles never got closer than 17 in the fourth quarter.

The Rangers conclude the regular season with four games over a six-day stretch, starting with a home game versus Catholic University on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
