MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's and women's swimming & diving teams closed their dual-meet season with an exclamation mark, sweeping the University of Scranton on Senior Night in F.M. Kirby Pool.
The women's team earned a 156-133 victory and in the process, posted the first undefeated season in program history, finishing 6-0. They did it by topping Scranton for the first time as Landmark Conference opponents and just the second time in team history.
Meanwhile, the men's squad won 14 of 16 events to capture a 188-72 win to finish its dual-meet season with a 4-2 record.
Drew's seven seniors were honored in a ceremony before the start of the meet.
The Ranger women won 10 of 16 events on the night, with freshman
Katerina Poulathas capturing a trio of individual victories. She opened the night by swimming the butterfly leg of the winning 200-medley relay team (1:51.77), which also consisted of sophomore
Amira Hadri (backstroke), junior
Katie Cashin (breaststroke), and junior
Grace Aboussleman (freestyle). Poulathas then won the 1,000-freestyle by 16 seconds before coming from behind in the final stretch to capture the 200-butterfly in 2:16.37. She finished the night with an 11-second victory in the 500-freestyle (5:22.07).
Senior
Mackenzie Garcia Hynds celebrated Senior Night in style by winning three events, including two individual victories. She prevailed in the 200-freestyle in 1:59.87, then claimed the 100-freestyle in 54.77. She closed the meet by anchoring the winning 400-freestyle relay (3:42.28), which also included Aboussleman, Cashin, and senior
Sydney Everhart.
Three other Rangers also picked up an individual victory. Aboussleman claimed the 100-freestyle in 54.77 while freshman
Sam Trodick captured the 200-breaststroke in 2:34.32. Everhart won her final individual race in Kirby Pool, touching first in the 100-butterfly (1:00.19).
For the men's team, sophomore
Finn Armitt and freshman
Hayden Koh led the way with four victories on the night, including three individual wins apiece. Armitt started by capturing the 200-freestyle (1:46.63) before adding triumphs in the 50-free (22.51) and 500-free (4:55.07). He also swam the second leg of the winning 400-free relay squad, teaming up with junior
Jeffrey Crouse, freshman
AJ Muir, and senior
Josh Roberts, who rallied his team from a deficit in the final leg.
Koh began by swimming the butterfly leg of the winning 200-medley relay, which also included Muir (backstroke), Neal (breaststroke), and Roberts (freestyle). He went on to post a five-second win in the 100-backstroke (51.75) before capturing the 100-freestyle (47.21). Koh closed the night with a three-second win in the 100-butterfly (50.40).
Neal also won two individual events, picking up eight-second victories in both the 1,000-freestyle (10:28.14) and 200-breaststroke (2:21.49).
Freshman
Yan Zheng Lew also recorded two wins (200-butterfly, 1:56.58; 200-IM, 2:01.60) while Muir (200-backstroke, 1:59.84) and sophomore
Jonathan Benowitz (1-meter diving, 145.05) captured one event apiece.
The Rangers are now off until Feb. 18-20, when they compete at the Landmark Conference Championships at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center in Boyds, Md.
