Norwich Takes a Pair From Baseball

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Drew University baseball team continued its spring break trip to Florida on Tuesday with a doubleheader versus Norwich University. Despite some strong pitching from the Rangers, the Cadets captured both ends of the twinbill, winning 5-0 and 4-1.

In the opener, senior Tim Jinks and junior Giovanni DeGiglio combined to allow just five hits and one earned run. Jinks started and yielded only three hits through four innings of work. Only one of his four runs allowed was earned, and he struck out five batters. DeGiglio gave up only two hits and one unearned run while tossing the last three innings.

Norwich (6-2) scored a pair of runs (one earned) in the first, then added single unearned runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.

Unfortunately the Rangers also ran into some tough pitching, as a trio of Cadets held Drew to three singles in the seven-inning game.

Freshman Kenny Yonker took the mound for his first career start and went on to strike out seven batters. After working a pair of scoreless innings, Norwich pushed across two runs in the third before adding two more in the fourth. Freshman KJ Lavoie came on to fire one scoreless inning in his collegiate debut for the Rangers.

The Rangers broke up the shutout in the top of the sixth, getting a double from freshman Dallas Lorenzetti and an RBI-single from senior Cole Bosch. Lorenzetti finished the game 2-for-3.

The Rangers take a day before continuing their trip on Thursday, when they take on Penn State Behrend in a single nine-inning game starting at 11:30 a.m.
