MADISON, N.J. -Â A pair of Drew University pitchers combined to allow just one earned run, but the Rangers were dealt a 2-0 setback to New Jersey City University in a non-conference matchup on Friday at Doc Young Field.
On the mound, freshman
Johnny Jarvie turned in his best outing of the season, firing six impressive innings. He allowed just four hits and one earned run while posting a season-high six strikeouts. The rookie showed excellent composure as he brilliantly escaped a couple of potentially dangerous jams. In the top of the fifth inning, he managed to work around a leadoff double, walk and an error to limit NJCU to just one unearned run as he set down the final two batters with a called strike three and a weak grounder.
Sophomore
Jake Schoffelen relieved Jarvie in the seventh and closed it out with three shutout innings. He induced a lot of weak contact, allowing only a single ball to leave the infield.
The Gothic Knights drove in their lone earned run in the top of the sixth with an RBI-single from catcher Mitchell Leslie.
Senior shortstop
Cole Bosch led the Rangers at the plate and safely reached base in all four of his at-bats, going 2-for-2 with a double and two walks.Â
The Rangers continue Landmark Conference play on Saturday, when they host Elizabethtown College in a doubleheader starting at noon.
