SCRANTON, Pa. - Senior
Madi Precht reached the career 100-hit milestone and drove in the go-ahead run in the nightcap, helping the Drew University softball team come away with a split at the University of Scranton in a Landmark Conference (LC) doubleheader on Saturday.
Scranton captured the opener 11-3 in five innings before the Rangers (16-8, 3-3 LC) earned a 2-1 victory in the nightcap, marking drew's first win over the Royals since 2017 and their first victory at Scranton since 2015.
Freshman
Teagan Bradley registered another outstanding showing in the circle for the Rangers in the second game, firing a six-hit complete game and striking out five without walking a batter.
In the opener, the Royals (11-6, 3-1 LC jumped ahead quickly with four runs over the first two innings versus junior starter
Bailey Comeau. Drew got on the scoreboard in the third, when Precht led off with a triple before scoring on a double from senior
Renata Primmer that made it 4-1. But Scranton broke it open with a six-run, five-hit third.Â
Precht achieved her milestone in the fourth inning, when she drove in senior
MaKayla Sosa with a single to rightfield. She would eventually come around to score on a sacrifice fly from junior
Molly O'Brien as the Rangers cut the deficit to 10-3. However, the Royals scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the game to an end due to the eight-run rule.
Precht finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the opener. She picked up right where she left off in the nightcap, leading off with a bunt single versus starter Jennifer Sweeney. After she was bunted to second by O'Brien, Primmer singled to put runners on first and second. Freshman
Delaney O'Donoghue then ripped a single into left-center to score Precht, making it 1-0.
Bradley blanked the Royals for the first two innings before Scranton scored its lone run in the third. Jessica Stadler led off with a single and moved to third on a wild pitch and groundout before scoring on a sacrifice fly. Â
It remained a 1-1 game until the top of the sixth. Freshman
Francesca O'Kleasky worked a leadoff walk before she was bunted over by senior
Paxtan Perry. O'Kleasy moved to third when senior
Madi Baldwin fouled out down the rightfield line before senior
Ciara Lyons drew a base on balls. Precht then delivered what held up as the game-winning RBI, drilling a single through the right side.
Bradley (8-2) made the lead stand up, throwing back-to-back perfect innings to end the game. She ended up retiring the last nine batters she faced.
Precht posted another multi-hit game in the nightcap, finishing 2-for-4.
The Rangers continue their season on Wednesday, when they visit Centenary University at 3 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
