ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Tied at 14-14 with two seconds left in the game, sophomore
Emma DiPatri cut to the left side of the crease and caught a pass from classmate
Ella Champigny before firing the ball into the top-right corner of the net to lift the Drew University women's lacrosse team over Elizabethtown 15-14 in Saturday's Landmark Conference tilt.
The Rangers now improve to 7-3 on the year and 1-1 in conference play, while the Blue Jays drop to 1-9 and 0-2 in the conference.
Highlighted by strong offensive outings from both squads, Saturday's contest featured 10 lead changes.
The Rangers led 5-2 at the end of the first quarter. Senior
Meliha Emini scored two goals in the period (four in total), including Drew's first of the game with a shot over the goalie's head at 5:29. DiPatri scored her first goal of the day with just 13 seconds left in the period after, coincidentally, breaking to the left side of the crease, catching a pass from Champigny and shooting to the right side. Champigny, Drew's leading point producer of the day (one goal, seven assists), picked up three assists in the first.
Elizabethtown took control in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Rangers 9-2, and went on a six-goal run between 6:17 in the second period and 6:07 in the third to pull ahead 11-6.
Trailing 12-7 a couple minutes into the fourth quarter, the Rangers evened things up at 12-12 after scoring five unanswered goals from 12:03-5:18. Emini began the streak with a free-position goal despite getting her stick knocked out of her hands just as she took the shot. Senior
Kendall Hartt followed this up with another free-position goal at 8:29 before Champigny scored her only goal of the day, taking the one-timer from DiPatri and threading the ball between the goalie's legs. Senior
Jenna Draney capped off the rally with back-to-back goals within a minute of each other.
Both teams would add two more goals in the final minutes leading up to DiPatri's buzzer beater.
Junior
Anna Horne started in goal for Drew, playing 25:51 minutes and recording four saves. Fifth-year
