Olivio’s Hat Trick Vaults Rangers to Senior Day Win

MADISON, N.J. – Junior Tyler Olivio posted her first collegiate hat trick, scoring three goals as the Drew University field hockey team celebrated Senior Day with a 6-3 Landmark Conference victory over Lycoming College on Saturday in Ranger Stadium.

Olivio registered Drew's first hat trick since Madi Sheetz C'17 scored four times in a win over Keuka on Sept. 10, 2016.

The Rangers took control early, jumping to a 4-0 halftime lead before holding off a late Warrior run.

Drew's seven seniors – Emma Bryer, Eniyah Garner, Olyvia Jackson, Hana Johnston, Maxine Lloyd, Jackie Melone, and Sheila Roth – were honored in a brief ceremony before the start of the game.

Olivio also handed out one assist to finish with a seven-point day while Lloyd netted one goal and one assist for the Rangers, who outshot the Warriors 24-7.

Olivio put the Rangers on the scoreboard just under four minutes into the game, tapping in a pass from freshman Emma Rider. Midway through the opening quarter, graduate student Alexa Thomas made it a 2-0 game when she finished off a pass from junior Lauren Cagliostro.

Drew added two more second-quarter goals to assume their big lead. Olivio scored on a nifty play midway through period, batting a pass from Lloyd out of the air and into the cage. Melone added a penalty-stroke goal of the Rangers with 4:01 on the clock and the Rangers carried a 4-0 advantage into the intermission.

After the Rangers outshot Lycoming 16-2 in the first half, the Warriors found some offense in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to one. Lycoming scored twice in the third quarter and again with 11:32 left to make it 4-3.

Lloyd stemmed the rally when she converted a cross to finish off a breakaway for the Rangers with 8:33 to go. Olivio settled any doubt when she tipped in a blast from sophomore Emily Monaco with 2:51 left for her third goal of the game and sixth of the season.

Jackson made four saves for the Rangers while Isabella Bobe stopped 15 shots for the Warriors.

At 3-5 in the Landmark Conference, Drew finds itself tied with Wilkes University for the sixth and final playoff spot. The two sides will meet in the Rangers' regular-season finale in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
