MADISON, N.J. – Ten different Rangers found their way into the scoring column and the Drew University women's basketball team forced 28 turnovers en route to a 70-47 Landmark Conference victory over Lycoming College in Baldwin Gym on Saturday.
Freshman guard
Sarah Smout scored a game-high 12 points coming off the bench for the Rangers (3-4, 2-2 LC) while junior guard
Izzy Lalo and sophomore forward
Gianna Pica netted a career-high 10 points apiece.
Sophomore guard
Maddy Morgan and freshman guard
Amy Rachilla posted eight points each for the Rangers while Kami Abdo and Emily Lockard paced the Warriors with eight points apiece.
The Warriors bolted to a 9-0 lead to open the game, but Drew wasted little time climbing back into it. Lalo and Smout combined for 12 points, helping to power a 15-2 run to end the quarter and the Rangers led 15-13 heading into the second period.
Drew opened up some breathing room early in the second quarter, when it started the stanza on an 11-0 run as its lead swelled to 26-13. Lalo, freshman guard
Grace Altomare, and Morgan all connected from long range during the run.
It was a 26-18 game with 2:47 remaining in the first half, but that's when the Rangers got hot again, ending the period on a 9-0 surge. Balanced scoring did the trick again, as Pica, Altomare, Rachilla, Morgan all scored during the run as the Rangers opened up a 35-18 advantage.
The Warriors held a slim 16-14 scoring advantage in the third quarter, but the Rangers put the game out of reach with a 9-0 run to open the period, making it 58-34 with 8:53 left. Smout scored five points during the surge before senior forward
Jamie Struble capped it with a steal and layup. The Rangers would lead by as much as 18 the rest of the way.
Drew takes a week off for finals before visiting cross-town rival FDU-Florham next Saturday at 1 p.m.
