BALTIMORE – The Drew University men's fencing team won four of five matches in a Mid-Atlantic Fencing Association (MACFA) "A vs. C" event on Sunday at Johns Hopkins University.
The Rangers defeated Navy (17-10), Haverford (15-12), Maryland (20-7) and William & Mary (19-8) and lost to Johns Hopkins (19-8), which is ranked third in Division III according to the US Fencing Coaches Association.
Drew (25-16) received an outstanding showing from its foil unit, which finished the day 4-1 – including a 5-4 victory over Johns Hopkins – while posting a cumulative 32-13 record. Sophomore
Tristan Santulli led the way with an 8-1 mark while freshman
Noah Gardos went 7-2. First-year
Henri Degremont finished 6-3 while pushing his season record to 36-19 while senior
Michael DeSando went 5-1 to improve to 22-5. Junior
Charles Daum added a 6-6 showing.
The Rangers finished 3-2 in both sabre and epee. In sabre, junior
Ethan Trent led the way, finishing 8-4, while junior
Daniel Magda went 7-8. Additionally, DeSando and senior
Michael Parkhurst each posted a 3-0 mark.
The epee squad received a 6-4 performance from junior
Lorence Lukanyuk while classmate
William Nop finished 6-6. Earning four wins each were freshman
William Morton (4-5) and sophomore
Danny Stevens (4-6).
The Rangers return to action on Saturday, when Drew hosts a MACFA "A" round robin.
