WASHINGTON, DC – The Drew university women's basketball team finished its season with a thrilling victory, as senior guard Gwen Alberici sealed the deal with two free throws with 16 seconds left to give the Rangers a 58-57 Landmark Conference win.

With the victory, Drew (17-8, 7-7 LC) concludes the year with the second-highest victory total in team history, trailing only the 2019-20 squad that went 18-10.

Alberici led the way for the Rangers (16-8 record, 7-7 LC) scoring a season-high 17 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Classmate Katrina Wojtowicz added 16 points, tying the second-highest total of her career, while shooting 4-for-7 from 3-point range.

Senior guard Joey Meyers contributed a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue and Green and wrapped up her tremendous career ranked among the top-10 in school history in numerous categories, including scoring (tied for sixth, 1,363 points), rebounds (seventh, 691), and steals (tied for eighth, 189).

Erin Doherty paced the way for the Cardinals (18-7, 9-5 LC) netting 30 points and eight rebounds.

The Rangers led by nine in the fourth quarter before Catholic rallied to make it a one-point game on a jumper from Erin Thompson that made it 56-55 with 37 ticks showing. Alberici was then fouled with 20 seconds left and after a missing a pair of shots, she grabbed her own offensive rebound before drawing another foul four seconds later. She made her second two, and after Doherty missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer, Carly Mulvaney set the final score with a put-back at the buzzer.

Drew came out of the gates fast, as Wojtowicz hit a 3-pointer 13 seconds into the contest. But Catholic took the lead midway through the period and finished the quarter up 14-8.

Drew tightened up its defense in the second quarter, holding the Cardinals to just 11.8% (2-for-17) shooting from the field. Drew outscored Catholic 12-4 in the stanza on a balanced scoring attack and led 20-18 at the half.

Drew continued its stifling defense in the third quarter, holding Catholic to just 31.3% shooting. Freshman guard Madelyn Morgan scored the last two baskets of the quarter to give the Rangers a 36-30 lead going into the final stanza.

The Cardinals found their offense in the final quarter, shooting 60% (9-for-15) from the field. But the Rangers opened up some breathing room with an 11-3 run to assume a 47-38 lead before Catholic rallied late.
