SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Drew University women's basketball team dropped an 85-63 decision to a hot-shooting Susquehanna University team Saturday afternoon in a Landmark Conference match-up.
Senior guard
Joey Meyers paced the Rangers (15-6, 5-5 LC) with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. She also moved past Courtney Cunningham C'07 for seventh on Drew's all-time scoring list and now has 1,292 points for her career. Senior guard
Katrina Wojtowicz made a trio of 3-pointers and added 12 points for Drew.
The River Hawks (8-13, 3-7 LC) who shot 59.6% from the field, received 25 points from Julia Roth and 23 points from Kaitlyn Lynch. Roth shot 11-for-12 while Lynch connected on 9-of-12 shots.
It was a close game early, and the score was tied 12-12 after a pair of free throws from Meyers with 4:12 left in the first quarter. But that's when Susquehanna ended the period on a 10-1 run to assume a 22-13 lead.
Drew trailed by only eight after senior guard
Gwen Alberici canned a 3-pointer with 3:35 remaining in the first half, but the River Hawks closed the quarter on another run, outscoring the Rangers 16-0 the rest of the way to build a 45-21 halftime advantage. Susquehanna connected on four 3-pointers during the surge.
The hosts stayed hot in the third quarter, when they shot 78.6% (11-for-14) from the field to extend their lead to 68-38 heading into the final stanza. The Rangers refused to give up, however, and outscored the Hawks 21-8 to end the game.
The Rangers pick up their schedule on Wednesday, when they visit fourth-ranked University of Scranton at 7 p.m.
