MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University baseball team trailed just 5-3 after six innings versus 13th-ranked Catholic University, but the Cardinals pulled away late to hand the Rangers an 11-4 setback in the series finale between the two teams on Monday at a sunny and windy Doc Young Field.

Nate Miller blasted a solo home run for the Rangers (11-12, 1-8 LC) in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 5-3 game before Catholic scored six runs over the last two innings en route to the series sweep.

John Furch finished 3-for-4 at the plate for Drew, which collected 12 hits, tying their season-high in Landmark Conference action. Junior
Luis Fuentes and senior
K.J. Hallgren smacked two hits each.

Kenny Yonker (2-1) started on the mound and pitched five innings for the Ranges before giving way to senior
Nick Pellegrino, who tossed three innings. Senior
Joseph Caggiano closed it with one inning of work.

Danny Fitzgerald (2-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings to earn the win for the Cardinals (17-3, 6-0 LC) while Ben Nardi was 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs.

The Cardinals pushed across a pair of runs on four hits in the second and added another in the fourth before Nardi smacked a two-run homer in the fifth to put Catholic up 5-0.

Drew rallied, however, scoring a pair in the bottom of the fifth on two hits and three errors to make it 5-2. Miller followed up with his second long ball of the season, a line shot well over the leftfield fence as the Rangers pulled to within two.

After Pellegrino blanked the Cardinals in the sixth and seventh, Catholic broke it open with a five-run, six-hit eighth and added another run in the ninth. Drew scored its final run during a three-hit eighth, capped by an RBI-single from Furch.

The Rangers are back in action on Tuesday, when they visit Rutgers-Newark in a non-conference matchup starting at 3:30 p.m.
