Women’s Basketball Season Ends in Landmark Playoffs

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Drew University women's basketball team saw its season come to a close on Tuesday with a 75-52 loss at Susquehanna University in the first round of the Landmark Conference Championships tournament.

The fifth-seeded Rangers (10-16), who were making their second conference playoff appearance in the last three years, were led by senior Jamie Struble, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds in the final game of her career. Sophomore forward Gianna Pica added nine points while sophomore guard Maddy Morgan contributed eight points, four rebounds, and three assists. Senior center Gracie Hezel pitched in with five rebounds in her final college game.

Julia Roth recorded 13 points and six rebounds to lead the River Hawks (18-8), who will now visit No. 1-seeded Catholic in the conference semifinals on Thursday.

Susquehanna raced out to an 8-1 lead, but the Rangers answered right back with a 11-5 spurt, capped by a layup from Pica that pulled Drew to within 13-12 with just under four minutes left in the quarter. However, the hosts scored eight unanswered points to end the quarter, building a 21-12 lead.

Susquehanna continued their push with a 6-2 run to open the second quarter. The Rangers trailed by just 11 with 4:24 on the clock following a free throw from Morgan, but that's when the River Hawks ended the half on a 13-5 run to assume a 42-23 lead at the break.

Drew outscored Susquehanna 19-18 in the third quarter, when it shot 43.8%, and closed the period on an 11-3 run to make it a 60-42 game with one quarter to go.

Pica knocked down a jumper 27 seconds into the final period to pull the Rangers within 16, but that's as close as Drew would get as the Hawks outscored the Rangers 15-8 the rest of the way.
