TUCSON, Ariz. – A stellar defensive effort lifted the Drew University softball team to two more victories on the third day of its spring break trip in Arizona on Monday.

The Rangers (5-1) allowed just one run and did not commit an error over 14 innings. They defeated Mount Mary University 4-0 before topping St. John Fisher University 2-1, pushing their winning streak to five on their western sojourn.

Freshmen
Kaitlynne Streets and
Allie Porbansky each tossed a complete game for the Rangers.

Against Mount Mary, Streets made her first collegiate start and twirled a five-hitter, striking out four and walking one. Sophomore
Ashlyn Cassetty went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored while freshman
Cadence Mapes-Klemic also finished 2-for-2.

Streets, who had just earned a one-inning save in Drew's victory over Mount Mary in their previous game on Sunday, blanked the Blue Angels over the first four innings and was the beneficiary of a 4-3 double play to end the fourth.

The Rangers then broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth, when Cassetty doubled, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch. It would turn out to be enough offense for Streets, who stranded a runner in each of the last three innings.

Drew padded its lead with another run in the fifth, when Mapes-Klemic tripled and scored on an error. The Rangers pushed across two more runs in the sixth on three hits and an error.

The second game was also a pitcher's duel in the early going, as Porbansky and St. John Fisher's Ainsley Evanetski each threw shutout ball over the first four innings. The Cardinals, the defending Empire 8 champions, struck first when Emily McManus smacked a solo homer in the top of the fifth.

The Rangers answered with two in the bottom half, when juniors
Mackenzie Pisani and
Delaney O'Donoghue sparked the rally with back-to-back singles leading off the inning. Pinch runners
Daylin Evans-Lascik and
Destiny Medina pulled off a double steal to put runners on second and third and with one out, Evanetski uncorked a wild pitch to allow Evans-Lascik to score. The catcher's throw to the plate was wild, allowing Medina to score as well with what held up as the game-winning run.

The Cardinals had the tying run in scoring position with one out in the sixth following a leadoff single and sacrifice bunt, but Porbansky escaped with a flyout and lineout. She then tossed a three-up, three-down seventh, improving to 2-0 on the season with her second complete game. She scattered eight hits and two walks while striking out one.

O'Donoghue finished 2-for-2 versus St. John Fisher.

The Rangers take a day off on Tuesday before returning to play on Wednesday, facing Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. EST.
