MADISON, N.J. – The Rangers led 2-1 after doubles play, but Goucher College won four of six singles matches to edge the Drew University men's tennis team 5-4 in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Drew Tennis Complex.
In a rematch of the last two Landmark Conference championship matches, the Gophers (8-8, 5-0 LC) trailed 4-2 before winning the final three singles matches, including a match-clinching victory at No. 6.
Goucher snapped Drew's 28-match winning streak in Landmark Conference regular-season play and 14-match winning streak versus Landmark Conference opponents. The Rangers had not lost a regular-season conference match since a 5-4 setback to Susquehanna University on April 7, 2019, and had not dropped a contest versus a conference opponent since Goucher won 5-4 in the 2022 Landmark Conference final.
In doubles action, seniors
Santo Carroccia and
Daryl Wong Li-Hom won 8-4 at No. 1 while freshman
Daniel Arcari and sophomore
Jesse Faro captured an 8-2 decision at No. 2. Both tandems improved to 5-0 in conference play this season.
Arcari also rallied for a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles, pushing his Landmark record to 5-0, while freshman
Joshua Thomas notched a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
The Rangers are back in action on Sunday, when they visit 22nd-ranked College of New Jersey in a non-conference tilt starting at noon.
