Women’s Lacrosse Runs Past Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – For the third time this season, the Drew University women's lacrosse team reached the 20-goal mark and the Rangers cruised to a 24-8 Landmark Conference victory at Wilkes University Wednesday evening.

Eleven different players scored a goal for Drew (5-6, 1-2 LC), which earned its first Landmark Conference victory of the season. Its 14 goals tied the third-highest total in team history.

Seniors Lizzy Barrett (four goals, two assists) and Mary Kate Davidson (four goals, one assist, nine draw controls, three caused turnovers) led Drew while freshman Grace Patane posted three goals and two assists. Senior Emma DiPatri notched three goals and one assist, and classmate Ella Champigny contributed two goals, three assists, and four ground balls. Sophomore Emma Gallaro and senior Kayla Schaefer added two goals apiece, and freshman Paige Shaw made four saves over 51 minutes of play.

Brooklyn Pedana and Ava Ward registered three goals and one assist each for the Colonels (2-9, 0-3 LC).

The Rangers fired off 21 shots and outscored Wilkes 9-1 in the first quarter, when Davidson scored three of her goals. Patane also netted a pair of goals, including one just before the buzzer.

Patane struck again less than a minute into the second quarter before Wilkes netted back-to-back tallies to make it 10-3. But that's when the Rangers erupted with an 11-0 run overlapping the second and third quarters. Drew scored the last six goals of the second quarter, including two from DiPatri, to head into the intermission leading 16-3.

The Rangers continued to roll in the third quarter, when they found the back of the net six times – with two coming from Barrett – to assume a 22-4 lead.

Freshman Madi Strong scored a man-up goal 16 seconds into the final period before Wilkes ended the game with a 4-1 run over the final 11:40.

Drew picks up its schedule on Saturday, when it travels to Elizabethtown College for another Landmark Conference tilt starting at 1 p.m.
