MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University softball team earned a big 4-1 victory over Moravian University in the second game of a Landmark Conference makeup doubleheader on Sunday at the Drew Softball Complex.

The Rangers (11-9, 2-4 LC) captured their second win over the Greyhounds in the Landmark Conference era and the first since a 5-2 victory in Madison on March 23, 2013, when Moravian was ranked 20th in Division III. The Greyhounds, who received votes in the latest NFCA Division III poll, lead the conference with 10 softball titles and won the Landmark championship last season, when they went on to reach the finals of the NCAA Division III Championships.

The Greyhounds (13-6, 5-3 LC) won the opener 11-0 in six innings.

Freshman
Allie Porbansky fired a six-hit complete to earn the victory in the nightcap. She walked only one batter and carried a shutout into the fifth inning.

It was a pitcher's duel in the early going between Porbansky and Moravian's Natalie Otto, who tossed three perfect innings to open the game. But the Rangers broke through with a four-run, six-hit fourth to assume a 4-0 lead. Senior
Molly O'Brien sparked the big inning with a leadoff single before she stole second and third. Sophomore
Haley Meierhofer then lashed a double into the left-center gap, putting the Rangers up 1-0.

Drew was just getting started, however, as the first five batters all reached base. Junior
Fran O'Kleasky was hit by a pitch before she and Meierhofer executed a double steal. Junior
MacKenzie Pisani then smashed a right-handed, opposite-field double to score both runners and make it a 3-0 game. She went on to score when sophomore
Aurora Marino clubbed a single up the middle, capping the pivotal inning.

Meanwhile, Porbansky settled into a groove after receiving a big defensive play early. Heather Walter led off the game with a triple off the centerfield fence, and with one out attempted to score on a fly ball to shallow rightfield. But sophomore
Zoey Shimp made a tremendous throw to the plate to nab Walter for an inning-ending double play.

Porbansky went on to retire 14 of 15 batters spanning the first through the sixth innings, but the Greyhounds finally broke through when they plated one run on four singles in the sixth. After scoring a run, Moravian had the bases loaded with two outs, but Porbansky induced a grounder to shortstop
Cadence Mapes-Klemic, who stepped on second base just ahead of the runner for the final out the inning.

Porbansky (4-3) went on to record a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn the victory. She needed just 79 pitches to earn her sixth complete game in nine starts.

O'Brien finished 2-for-3 with three stolen bases in the second game.

In the opener, Moravian scored once in the third inning before breaking out with a four-run fourth, highlighted by a grand slam from Ajala Elmore that made it 5-0. The 'Hounds tacked on two in the fifth before scoring four more in the sixth to activate the eight-run rule.

Moravian's Madi Cunningham, fresh off a six-inning perfect game versus Susquehanna on Saturday, threw a three-hit shutout for Moravian. Junior
Teagan Bradley started in the circle for the Rangers and tossed four innings before freshman
Kaitlynne Streets pitched the last two innings.

Drew resumes Landmark Conference play on Tuesday, when it visits the University of Scranton for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
