Women’s Tennis Season Ends in Second Round of NCAA Championships

AMHERST, Mass. – The Drew University women's tennis team saw its outstanding 2023-24 season come to a close in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday at Amherst College with a 6-0 loss to No. 2-ranked Pomona-Pitzer.
 
The Rangers (13-7), who were making their third straight appearance in the NCAA tournament after capturing their third consecutive Landmark Conference title, closed the season by winning 12 of their last 14 matches after starting the year 1-5.
 
The Sagehens (18-5) move on to the third round, where they will take on regional host and No. 8-ranked Amherst, a 5-0 winner over Skidmore College in the other second-round match.
 
Pomona-Pitzer swept the doubles matches to assume a 3-0 lead, then captured a victory at No. 4 singles to go up 4-0. Second and fifth singles then ended simultaneously, bringing the match to a close.
 
It was the final match for senior Melina Christodoulou, who competed at No. 1 singles and doubles. She finished her career ranked third in school history in doubles wins (41) and tied for eighth in singles victories (34).
