NEWARK, N.J. – The Drew University men's cross country team placed sixth out of 17 teams at the NJIT Invitational on Saturday at Branch Brook Park.
Running against a mix of Division I, II, and III competition, the Rangers earned a team score of 159 to place behind only Army (15), TCNJ (71), Molloy (131), St. Joseph's Long Island (141), and St. Thomas Acquinas (159).
Pacing the Rangers was junior
Tommy Edwards, who placed 22nd while scaling the 8,000-meter course in a personal-record time of 27 minutes, 24 seconds. Freshman
Fred Grote was close behind, taking 26th in 27:38, while senior
Dylan Crain came in 45th in 28:38.

Matt Vargas placed 52nd in 29:06, and classmate
Chris Tocci completed the team scoring, taking 54th in 29:19. Also competing were sophomore
Eliot Vishnevsky (60th, 29:31), freshman
Luke Krafton (105th, 32:28), and freshman
Patrick Robinson (124th, 33:57). Vargas, Vishnevsky, and Krafton all posted PRs.
The Rangers pick up their schedule next Saturday at the Rowan University Inter-Regional Border Battle, held at Gloucester County Dream Park in Logan Township, N.J.
