Hot Start Powers Women’s Basketball Past Lycoming

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's basketball team outscored Lycoming College 15-0 to start the game and the Rangers cruised to a 76-41 Landmark Conference victory Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.
 
Drew (6-3, 2-2 LC), which ended up outscoring the Warriors 24-5 in the first quarter, held Lycoming to 25.9% shooting for the game and forced 22 turnovers, which the Rangers converted into 21 points.
 
Eleven different Rangers figured into the scoring column, with sophomore guard Jocelyn Kingsley leading the way with a career-high 14 points to go with six rebounds while shooting 8-for-8 at the foul line. Junior guard Alice Altomare added 13 points while connecting on 4-of-10 3-pointers, and junior guard Olivia Aliotta contributed nine points and nine rebounds. Freshman forward Molly Chapman contributed eight points and eight rebounds, and senior center Brenna Hezel also scored eight points.
 
Drew shot a season-best 85.0% (17-for-20) at the foul line.
 
Kami Abdo led the Warriors (3-5, 1-3 LC) with 14 points.
 
Four different Rangers scored during Drew's game-opening run, which included a 3-pointer from junior guard Miabella Diaz. The Rangers kept Lycoming off the scoreboard until the 3:40 mark of the first quarter, when Abdo split a pair of free throws, and Drew scored the following six points to build a commanding 22-1 lead. The Rangers did not allow a field goal until the 1:16 mark and carried their aforementioned 19-point lead into the second quarter.
 
Drew pushed its lead to 29-7 with 8:09 left in the first half, and later in the second quarter, Altomare scored 10 straight points for the Rangers while shooting 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. A layup from Hezel at the buzzer gave Drew a 44-20 lead at the intermission.
 
The Rangers settled any doubt in the third quarter, outscoring Lycoming 18-10 before edging the Warriors 14-10 in the final period.
 
Drew continues its season next Saturday, when it visits local rival Saint Elizabeth University in a non-conference tilt starting at 2 p.m.
