Women’s Basketball Takes on Sixth Nationally-Ranked Opponent

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Facing a nationally-ranked opponent for the second game in a row and for the sixth time this season, the Drew University women's basketball team came up on the short end of a 77-57 decision at No. 19 Elizabethtown College on Wednesday in a Landmark Conference affair.

Elizabethtown (21-3, 15-2 LC) never trailed after opening the game on a 10-0 run, and the Blue Jays led 17-10 at the end of first quarter and 38-22 at halftime. The hosts then put the game away in the third quarter, when they outscored the Rangers 24-14.

Junior forward Giana Pica led the Rangers (13-10, 9-8 LC) with 12 points while sophomore guard Amy Rachilla posted six points and five steals.

Makenna Mummert scored 13 points to lead the Blue Jays.

After Etown's game-opening run, the Rangers narrowed the gap to 13-7 following a layup from freshman guard Jocelyn Kingsley, and a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Alice Altomare with 32 seconds on the clock made it a seven-point game heading into the second quarter.

The Blue Jays opened the second quarter on a 10-0 spurt to make it 27-10. Drew pulled to within 12 following a 3-pointer from junior guard Maddie Beyer and a layup from sophomore guard Miabella Diaz with 4:13 showing, but Etown pushed its lead back to 17 later in the quarter. The hosts then began the second half on a 9-2 run to pull away.

The Rangers close out the regular season on Saturday, when they visit Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference outing. Drew will then revisit Susquehanna on Tuesday in a Landmark Conference Championship first-round game.
