Baseball Tops New Jersey City

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University baseball team racked up 17 hits and the Rangers defeated New Jersey City University 15-11 in a non-conference match-up Thursday afternoon at Doc Young Field at Lonnstrom Stadium.
 
Six different Rangers picked up multiple hits, including the freshman trio of Frank Master, who was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, two RBIs; Zach Maxwell, who went 3-for-6 with three RBIs; and Anthony Vallaro, who finished 3-for-6 with two doubles and two runs.
 
Senior Mike Gallaro homered while going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and seniors Will Fritch and Anthony Hernandez contributed two hits apiece as well.
 
On the mound, senior Kenny Yonker (1-2) scattered six hits and three walks over six innings while yielding five runs (four earned) and striking out one. Freshman Breckyn DeAngelis came on to fire two shutout innings while allowing just one hit.
 
The Gothic Knights (9-7-1) pushed across a run in the top of the first before the Rangers took the lead for good with a pair in the bottom half.
 
Drew (10-10) went up 5-1 following a three-run third, which included a two-run single from Fritch.
 
New Jersey City made it 5-3 after a two-run fourth before the Rangers restored their four-run advantage with two in the bottom of the inning.
 
Drew broke it open with eight runs from the fifth through the eighth to go up 15-5. Gallaro highlighted the sixth with a two-run shot to left, marking his first home run since hist freshman season.
 
The Knights put up six runs off two Drew relievers in the ninth to set the final score.
 
The Rangers return to Landmark Conference actin on Saturday, when they visit Lycoming College in a doubleheader starting at noon.
