WASHINGTON – The Drew University women's tennis team saw its season come to a close with a 4-1 loss at Catholic University in the opening round of the Landmark Conference Championships on Wednesday.

Sophie Weaver won 6-3 at first doubles, but Catholic responded with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position. In the deciding doubles match, the Cardinals prevailed 7-6 (8-6) at third doubles to assume a 1-0 match lead.
The Rangers (10-10) tied it up when Weaver won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. However, Catholic went on to record victories at sixth, third, and fourth singles, respectively, to clinch the match, which was played to point due to Landmark Conference postseason rules.
The Cardinals will now visit top-seeded Moravian in the conference semifinals while No. 3-seeded Scranton, a 4-1 winner over No. 6 Juniata in the other first-round match, will take on No. 2 Goucher in the other semifinal.
