NEWARK, N.J. – The Drew University men's cross country team opened its 2025 season with the NJIT XC Alumni Invitational at Branch Brook Park on Friday.
The Rangers placed fifth with a score of 103 while competing against fellow Division III rival Ramapo College along with Division I NJIT, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Manhattan University as well unattached competitors. NJIT won with a score of 48, edging out FDU by two points.
Leading the way for the Rangers was freshman
Fred Grote, who was clocked at 26 minutes, 55 seconds over the flat and fast 8,000-meter course. He placed fifth out of 42 competitors and was the fourth collegiate finisher and the second Division III harrier to cross the line, placing just five seconds behind Ramapo's Ryan Pena.
Sophomore
Matt Ellis placed second among the Rangers, clocking a 27:59, while freshman
Chris Tocci placed 26th in 28:19. Senior
Dylan Crain was 27th in 28:27, and sophomore
Eliot Vishnevsky completed the team scoring, placing 37th in 30:52.
Also competing were freshmen
Luke Krafton, who came in 38th in 33:00, and
Patrick Robinson, who was 39th in 33:12.
NJIT's Anthony Dvorsky won in 25:11.
The Rangers are back in action on Friday, when they host the Ranger Invitational, which will be held at Oak Ridge Park in Clark, New Jersey.
