Men’s Tennis Opens at Union Invitational

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Drew University men's tennis team opened its 2025-26 season at the Garnet Charger Invitational, hosted by Union College on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Ten Rangers competed at the event, which did not include team scoring.
 
The highly-competitive invitational featured Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Saint Lawrence University, and Trinity (Conn.) College.
 
In singles play, junior Daniel Arcari and senior Shivi Perera came the closest to picking up a victory. Arcari was edged just 8-6 by Union's Simon Philip in the semifinals of the "B" draw consolation bracket while Perera lost by the same score to Preston McCarthy of Saint Lawrence in the semis of the "D" draw consolation bracket. Meanwhile, junior Nicolas Mobayed battled in a close 8-5 loss to RPI's Aidan Atri in the seventh-place match of the "C" bracket.
 
In doubles action, Mobayed and Perera nearly recorded a win in their opening match of the "A" bracket, forcing a tiebreaker but ultimately falling 8-7 (7-5) to Arhan Gupta and Jesus Sosa of Union. The pair went on to post a victory, as they topped Atri and Felix Puyplat of RPI by an 8-6 count in the consolation bracket of the "A" draw. The pair lost just 8-6 count in the consolation semifinals to Willem Naughton and Charles Schepens of Saint Lawrence.
 
Also in the "A" doubles bracket, Arcari and senior Jesse Faro fought to a close decision with an 8-6 opening-round loss to Sid Srinivasan and Quoc-Uy Vo of RPI.
 
The Rangers continue their fall schedule on Saturday, when they host Pratt Institute at noon.
