WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Eleven different players found their way into the scoring column and the Drew University women's basketball team earned a 72-44 Landmark Conference victory at Wilkes University on Wednesday evening.
Senior guard
Maddie Beyer posted 14 points, five rebounds, and three steals for the Rangers (9-5, 4-3 LC) while sophomore guard
Jocelyn Kingsley added 12 points and four assists. Senior forward
Gianna Pica netted 10 points, and freshman forward
Molly Chapman contributed eight points and seven rebounds. In addition, senior center
Brenna Hezel grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds.
Anya Richet scored 13 points to lead the Colonels (3-11, 0-7 LC).
Wilkes scored the first five points of the game and led for most of the opening quarter before a conventional 3-point play from Beyer gave Drew the lead of good at 10-7 with 2:26 on the clock. The Rangers led 16-10 heading into the second quarter.
Drew opened the next period von a 9-0 run to open up a 25-12 cushion. Pica and Kingsley each scored four points during the stretch for the Rangers, who led by at least 10 for the remainder of the period and took a 35-24 advantage into the locker room.
The Colonels scored the first basket of the second half to pull to within nine, but the Rangers answered with a 7-0 spurt, which was capped by a 3-pointer from Kingsley that made it 42-26. Drew led by as much as 18 in the quarter and held a 56-39 lead after three quarters of play.
The Rangers settled any doubt in the fourth quarter, when they outscored Wilkes 16-5.
Drew continues its season on Saturday, when it hosts Susquehanna University at 4 p.m. in another Landmark Conference tilt.
