Late Defensive Stand Lifts Rangers at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Drew University women's basketball team shut out host Lycoming College over the final five minutes and the Rangers rallied for a 53-46 Landmark Conference victory Saturday afternoon.
 
Junior guard Olivia Aliotta paced the Rangers (12-7, 7-5 LC) with 15 points and eight rebounds while sophomore guard Jocelyn Kingsley added her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to go with three steals. Junior guard Amy Rachilla contributed eight points.
 
Jocelyn McCracken led the Warriors (7-12, 3-9 LC) with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Lycoming took a 46-38 lead on a pair of free throws from Ann-Marie McMurtrie with 5:10 remaining, but those would turn out to be its final points of the game. The Rangers held the Warriors to 0-for-9 shooting the rest of the way while forcing a pair of turnovers. In the meantime, Drew scored the game's last 15 points.
 
The Rangers made the most of their trips to the foul line while embarking on their late comeback. Aliotta, Rachilla, and Kingsley each went 2-for-2 at the charity stripe to account for the first six points of Drew's game-ending run. Aliotta went 1-for-2 at the line to cut the deficit to one before Rachilla handed the Rangers the lead (47-46) the lead for good with 2:16 remaining.
 
Aliotta tipped in a shot with 1:53 left and hit another free throw with 45 ticks showing to give her team a 50-46 advantage. After Drew forced Lycoming into a missed layup, freshman forward Molly Chapman rebounded before junior guard Alice Altomare was fouled. She split a trip to the line to put the Rangers up by five (51-46) with 31 seconds to go.                                           
 
After Lycoming missed a 3-pointer, Chapman was put on the foul line with six seconds left, where she hit a pair to set the final score.
 
The Rangers led for most of the first quarter and held an early 12-6 lead following a layup from senior forward s. But the Warriors ended the period on an 8-2 run to pull even at 14-all at the end of the quarter.
 
Drew led 25-23 with 1:15 left in the opening half before scoring the last five points of the stanza. Chapman drained a 3-pointer before Kingsley drained two at the foul line with 13 seconds left to give the Rangers a 30-23 halftime lead.
 
Lycoming outscored the Rangers 14-4 in the third quarter to assume a 37-34 lead heading into the final period.
 
Drew returns home on Wednesday, when it hosts Elizabethtown College at 7 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
