MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's basketball team outscored Goucher College 38-21 in the first half and the Rangers downed the Gophers 65-51 in a Landmark Conference affair Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
Senior guard
Maddie Beyer posted a season-high 16 points while shooting 4-for-7 from 3-point range for Drew (8-4, 3-2 LC), which never trailed after playing for the first time in 21 days. She also grabbed a season-high seven rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Jocelyn Kingsley added 13 points and three steals for the Rangers while junior guard
Olivia Aliotta netted 10 points. Junior guard
Amy Rachilla pitched in with eight points and a season-high seven assists.
Aniya McDaniel led Goucher (5-7, 1-4 LC) with 15 points and six rebounds.
The Rangers never trailed after opening the game on an 8-0 run, which was bookended by 3-pointers from Beyer. The Gophers pulled to within four late in the period, but Drew answered with a 5-0 run on a layup from freshman forward
Molly Chapman and a 3-pointer from junior guard
Alice Altomare. Goucher scored the last basket of the quarter to cut the deficit to 17-10.
The Gophers also scored the first bucket of the second period to make it a five-point game, but Drew responded with an 11-1 run to open up a 15-point gap (28-13) with 5:37 left. Rachilla nailed a pair of treys during the stretch while Beyer also connected from beyond the arc. Goucher nudged to within 11 with just under four minutes on the clock but Drew used a 6-0 spurt to go up 17 at the break.
Goucher rallied to get within seven midway through the third quarter, but the Rangers had an answer once again, ending the period on an 8-2 run to assume a 49-36 advantage heading into the final stanza.
The Rangers pushed their advantage to as much as 16 early in the fourth quarter, when it led by at least 11 the entire way. A decisive 9-2 run, capped by another Altomare triple, gave Drew an insurmountable 63-45 lead with 2:36 to go.
The Blue and Green continue their season on Saturday, when they visit Catholic University at 4 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
