Field Hockey Tops Moravian for Sixth Straight Win

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Bella Fini scored the go-ahead goal early in the fourth quarter and a potential game-tying shot at the horn was waved off as the Drew University field hockey team won its sixth straight game, topping Moravian University 3-2 in Landmark Conference action Tuesday evening in chilly Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers (6-5, 3-0 LC), who stayed undefeated in Landmark Conference play, trailed 2-1 before scoring the game's last two goals.

Fini, the reigning Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week, finished with one goal and one assist. Freshman Vanessa Pennella added four saves for Drew.

Liv Peechatka scored a pair of goals for Moravian (4-7, 0-3 LC) and nearly scored a third when she sent a shot inside the back post from the right side as time expired. However, it was determined that the ball crossed the goal line just after the buzzer sounded.

Peechatka broke open a scoreless game when she scored with 6:25 left in the second quarter, but sophomore Karine Johnson answered for the Rangers in the final minute of the half, pushing in a shot from the left post off a pass from Fini to make it a 1-1 game at the break.

Moravian went back in front on Peechatka's second goal nearly three minutes into the second half, but that's when the Rangers tied it up on an impressive goal from junior Ellie Kopec. From the top of the arc, she backhanded a high shot of the glove of a leaping goalie and into the upper-left corner of the cage for her eighth goal of the season.

Fini completed Drew's second comeback in as many games when she took a pass from sophomore Elizabeth Harbeson on the break and blasted in a close-range shot for her team- and Landmark Conference-leading 10th goal of the season but he first game-winner of the year.

The Rangers return home on Saturday, when they take on Susquehanna University in another Landmark Conference tilt.
