Women’s Basketball Falls to Susquehanna in Regular-Season Finale

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Drew University women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 79-61 setback at Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference tilt on Saturday.

Despite the loss, the Rangers (13-12, 8-10 LC) will continue their season in the Landmark Conference Championship tournament as the No. 6 seed and will travel to an opponent to be determined in the first round on Tuesday.

Junior guard Olivia Aliotta led Drew with 17 points while classmate Amy Rachilla added 11 points and six rebounds. Senior forward Gianna Pica added 11 points of her own while junior guard Alice Altomare chipped in with nine points.

Carly George led the River Hawks (21-4, 14-4 LC) with 20 points.

Susquehanna never trailed after opening the game on a 12-3 run and led 24-15 at the end of the first quarter.

Aliotta scored the first basket of the second quarter, knocking down a 3-pointer to pull the Rangers within six. Another jumper from Aliotta made it 31-23, but that's when the River Hawks ran off a 10-0 run to open up an 18-point advantage with 1:48 on the clock. The hosts led 42-28 at the half.

Susquehanna pushed their lead over 20 four minutes into the third quarter and took a 63-42 advantage into the final period. Drew trailed 71-45 but refused to go quietly, outscoring the Hawks 16-5 to pull to within 15 before Susquehanna hit a 3-pointer on its final possession.
