WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Drew University women's golf team opened the spring season with a stellar performance, winning both the individual and team titles at The Ruckus, held Saturday and Sunday at Williamsburg National Golf Club.
The Rangers fired a 657 to win the six-team event by 23 strokes over runner-up Bridgewater State (Va.), marking the squad's second victory of the year.
Individually, senior
Roxy Riles rallied from four strokes behind after the opening round to claim medalist honors with a 147 (75-72). She fired five birdies for the tournament and she lowered her career-best 18-hole score with her second-round 72. It was the third career victory for Riles and first of the season.
Sophomore
Josephine Nguyen claimed runner-up honors with a 150 (71-79), carding six birdies along the way. Classmate
Isabella Borte placed ninth in the field of 31, shooting a 177 (84-93)ii while senior
Emily Rhode wrapped up the team scoring, tying for 13th with a 183 (94-89). Freshman
Kacey Winters also competed and tied for 26th with a 214 (115-99).
The Rangers continue their season on Monday, April 6 at the Stevenson University Invitational, held at Piney Branch Golf Club in Upperco, Md.
