HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Drew University softball team pounded out 23 hits en route to a non-conference sweep at Centenary University on Wednesday.
The Rangers (16-6) won the opener 13-7 before capturing a 7-4 decision in the second game.
Drew is now on its longest winning streak since a nine-gamer early in the 2023 season.
Senior
Olivia Magliacano finished 4-for-9 with two triples, three runs, and three RBIs on the day while freshman
Lorelei Lorentzen went 4-for-7 with a triple and three runs. Junior
Natalie Lorenzo finished 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs, and classmate
Sam Pellegri finished 3-for-6 with three runs scored.
Senior
Amanda Novak pitched five innings to earn the win in the opener before game two winner, sophomore
Olivia Datilio, tossed 4 2/3 innings. Sophomore
Gabby Duran fired 2 1/3 innings to pick up a save in the nightcap.
The opener was a high-scoring contest in the early going, with the score tied 5-5 after two innings. But the Rangers broke it open with a five-run fourth, which included a two-run triple from senior
Haley Meierhofer, an RBI-triple from Magliacano, and a run-scoring single from freshman
Izzy Wiemer that made it 10-5.
After the Cyclones (3-16) pulled to within 10-7, the Rangers plated three insurance runs in the seventh to set the final score. The inning included Magliacano's second triple of the game, which tied a school record.
Magliacano finished 3-for-5 in the first game while Pellegri went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Novak (3-1) yielded five runs on eight hits and seven walks while striking out one. Junior
Allie Porbansky also worked a pair of innings, allowing two runs on three hits while fanning two.
In the second game, Rangers never trailed after scoring a run in the top of the second. A four-run fourth made it 5-0, but Centenary rallied with two in the bottom half. The Cyclones pulled to within 5-4 following a two-run fifth, but the Rangers scored twice in the seventh with the last two runs of the game.
Lorentzen went 3-for-4 with a triple in the second game while sophomore
Megan Williams finished 2-for-4.
Datilio (4-0) scattered six hits and three walks while striking out four in the nightcap. Duran blanked the Cyclones the rest of the way while posting her third save.
The Rangers return to Landmark Conference action on Saturday, when they visit Lycoming College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
