CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – The Drew University men's golf team claimed the team title for the second time in three events this spring, winning the highly-competitive Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate, held at Paradise Point Golf Course from Friday through Sunday.
The Rangers turned in a tremendous showing, firing a 1-over-par 865 (289-290-286) for the 54-hole event. They slashed 13 strokes off the school record for 54 holes and edged runner-up Bridgewater College by two strokes.
Senior
Elliot Parker led the way for the Rangers, firing a 2-under-par 214 (71-71-72) to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place in the field of 120. He came up just one stroke shy of his own 54-hole school record and finished the tournament with 14 birdies, including four on Sunday.
Sophomore
Sam Dolan closed the weekend with an incredible performance, carding a season-low, 3-under-par 69 on the strength of four birdies and 13 pars. He finished the tournament with 12 birdies and tied for 14th with a 217 (78-70-69).
Senior
Shiv Bhaskar also turned in a stellar round on Sunday, shooting a 1-under 71. He posted three birdies and 13 pars on Sunday while finishing the weekend with seven birdies. He finished tied for 21st with a 219 (74-74-71).
Junior
Avery Cohen completed the team scoring for the Rangers, carding a 223 (73-76-74) to finish in a tie for 35th. He birdied four holes on Sunday and 11 for the tournament while also posting an eagle on a par-4 hole on Friday.
Junior
Thomas Hurley also competed and shot a 225 (71-75-79) to finish in a tie for 45th. He shot two birdies on Sunday and 11 for the weekend.
Dylan Zhang of Swarthmore claimed medalist honors with a 7-under 209. Rounding out the top-five behind Drew and Bridgewater in the team standings were Dickinson (870), tournament host Oglethorpe (871), and McDaniel (879).
The Rangers return to action on Monday, when a "B" team competes at the Stevens Invitational, held at Basking Ridge Country Club in Basking Ridge, N.J. The primary squad will compete at the Conquer the Island Event on April 22 at the Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort in Shawnee on Delaware, Pa.
