Women’s Lacrosse Earns Landmark Conference Victory at Etown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team outscored host Elizabethtown College 7-2 in the middle two quarters and the Rangers captured a 15-8 Landmark Conference victory Wednesday evening.

The Rangers (9-5, 4-3 LC) led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter but pushed their lead to 9-4 at halftime and 12-5 at the end of the third quarter.

Junior Grace Patane posted four goals and one assist while freshman Regina Williams netted three goals. Senior Aubrey Welch finished with two goals, five draw controls, and three ground balls, and sophomore Hayden Scotti added two goals and two assists.

Defensively, senior Emily Monaco turned in a big performance, posting six ground balls and a career-high six caused turnovers. In goal, junior Paige Shaw started and made one save during the first half before sophomore Rorrie Sifers collected seven saves while playing the second half.

The Blue Jays led just twice – at 1-0 and 2-1. Drew used a 4-0 spurt to go up 5-2 with 5:36 left in the opening quarter and never trailed again. Williams, Monaco, Welch, and Patane all scored during the stretch.

Patane struck again early in the second quarter to make it 6-3, and after an Etown goal, Drew closed the half on a 3-0 spurt, receiving goals from Welch, senior Emma Gallaro, and another from Patane to give the Rangers their 9-4 halftime advantage.

Williams scored each of Drew's first two second-half goals before Patane netted her final tally with 20 seconds left in the third quarter, handing the Blue and Green their 12-5 advantage.

Elizabethtown momentarily rallied, scoring the first three goals of the fourth quarter, with the last coming at the 10:36 mark. But the Rangers blanked the Blue Jays the rest of the way and tacked on three insurance tallies in the final 6:20, including two from Scotti and one from Strong.

The Rangers continue their season on Saturday, when they visit Juniata College in a 1 p.m. start.
