TOWSON, Md. – The Drew University women's tennis team lost a close 4-3 decision at Goucher College in its regular-season finale on Saturday.
However, the Rangers (9-10, 5-4 LC) finish fourth in the Landmark Conference standings and will host Wilkes University in the first round of the Landmark Conference Championship tournament on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The Gophers (5-12, 4-5 LC) opened the match with a 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point, as Goucher prevailed at first and second doubles. Juniors
Kapriana Payami and
Danielle Pettoni won 6-0 at No. 3 for the Rangers, improving to 5-3 in conference play for the season.
In singles play, sophomore
Madison Williams rallied for a three-set victory, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3, improving to 6-3 on the season. Meanwhile, Pettoni won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, pushing her Landmark Conference record to 8-1 on the year, while Payami earned a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 6, as she finished the regular season 4-2 versus conference opponents.
