Moravian Takes a Pair From Softball

BETHELEHEM, Pa. – The Drew University softball team traveled to Moravian University for a Landmark Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, and the Greyhounds captured both ends of the twinbill, winning the opener 4-0 before capturing an 8-2 decision in the second game.

Junior Kaitlynne Streets tossed a complete and allowed just one earned run in the opener for the Rangers (16-10, 4-4 LC). She scattered eight hits, walked three and struck out two.

Moravian (16-8, 5-1 LC) went in front 3-0 with three unearned runs in the first. Streets then allowed just one run over the next five innings and retired eight of the last nine batters she faced.

Sarah DeStefano retired the first 13 batters she faced for Moravian before freshman Izzy Wiemer roped a one-out single in the fifth. The Rangers put up their biggest offensive threat in the seventh, when senior Haley Meierhofer and freshman Lorelei Lorentzen led off with back-to-back singles before they were bunted over by junior Karly Severinsen. But DeStefano induced a groundout to end the game.

The Greyhounds used a big first inning in the second game as well, pushing across six runs on four hits, capped by a three-run homer from Kaley Hoffman.

Moravian tacked on another run in the third against Drew starting pitcher Gabby Duran. The Rangers cut the deficit to 7-2 with single runs in the fifth and sixth before Moravian set the final score in the sixth.

The Rangers finished the game with eight hits, as seven different starters batted safely. Freshman Sloan Walmsley led the way with a pair of singles. Duran (4-2) pitched all six innings for Drew and struck out two.

The Blue and Green return to action on Thursday with a non-conference doubleheader at cross-town rival FDU-Florham starting at 3 p.m.
