Field Hockey Stopped by Eastern

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Bella Fini gave the Rangers an early lead, but Eastern University pulled away in the second half to hand the Drew University field hockey team a 4-1 setback in non-conference action Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.

Less than five minutes into the game, sophomore Elizabeth Harbeson sent in a cross from the left wing, and Fini tipped it in for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Eagles (5-0) pulled even late in the opening quarter before the Rangers turned up the pressure in the second period, outshooting Eastern 9-0. But that's when Angelina Catania made all seven of her saves for the Eagles.

Eastern scored the go-ahead goal four minutes into the second half, then tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the six minutes of the game.

The Eagles posted a slim 16-13 shot advantage while the Rangers held a 10-9 edge in penalty corners.

Freshman Vanessa Pennella made four of her five saves in the fourth quarter, when Eastern attempted nine shots.

The Rangers are back home on Saturday, when they take on Western Connecticut State University starting at noon.
