WAYNE, N.J. – The Drew University men's golf team opened its season with a victory on Thursday, as its "B" team captured the Pioneer Invitational, hosted by William Paterson University.
The Rangers beat out 12 other teams and with a score of 296, edged out Kean University by one stroke.
Freshman
John Gavaghan led the way for the Rangers, placing third among 75 competitors while carding a 1-over-par 71. He birdied four holes and shot even-par on nine others.
Freshman
Ethan Gerrior was Drew's second finisher, tying for seventh place with a 74. He shot three of his four birdies on the back-9 en route to a 35.
Sophomore
Noah Erickson was close behind, tying for ninth with a 75. He birdied two holes and also fired a 35 on the back-9.
Freshman
Maxwell Diee rounded out the team scoring for the Rangers, tying for 11th with a 76. He shot even-par on 13 holes.
First-year
Chris Pullano was also in action and tied for 21st with a 78, which included two birdies.
Drew's primary team competes in its first match of the season on Monday and Tuesday at The Gauntlet, held at Hawk Point Golf Club in Washington, N.J.
