SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Drew University men's tennis team opened its 2026-27 season at the Garnet Charger Invitational, hosted by Union College on Friday and Saturday.
Ten Rangers competed at the event, which did not include team scoring.
The highly-competitive invitational featured Union, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Saint Lawrence University, and Trinity (Conn.) College.
In singles play, freshman
Samir Roberts-Mouzon, senior
Nicolas Mobayed, and freshman
Nick Weglinski each picked up a victory, with Robert-Mouzon and Mobayed each reaching the semifinals.
Robert-Mouzon, playing in the "B" bracket, captured an 8-5 decision over Bennett Stout of Saint Lawrence in his opening quarterfinal match. He then lost by an 8-4 decision to Dean Jackson of Trinity in the semifinals.
Competing in the "C" bracket, Mobayed opened with an 8-4 victory over Marco Lee of Saint Lawrence in the quarterfinals before dropping an 8-2 decision to eventual bracket winner Thompson Brown of Trinity in the semifinals.
Weglinski, competing in the "E" bracket, lost 6-2 to Trinity's Kunal Amara in the first round before earning a victory by default over Jackson Murray of Saint Lawrence in the consolation bracket.
Senior
Daniel Arcari was close to earning a victory as well, as he battled Gustave Viennet of Saint Lawrence to a tiebreaker in the "A" consolation bracket. Viennet prevailed 8-7 (8-6).
Freshman
Nathen Martin also played his opponent to a close decision, as he was edged just 8-6 by Shreyas Kode of Union in the "D" consolation bracket.
In doubles action, three different teams earned a win for the Rangers.
In the "B" bracket, Martin and Mobayed earned a spot in the semifinals after opening with a 6-1 quarterfinal win over Daniel Saxe and Alain Uzelac of Union. In the semis, they lost just 6-4 to Charles Schepens and Bennett Stout of Saint Lawrence.
After dropping their first two matches in the "A" draw, Arcari and Roberts-Mouzon won by a score of 6-4 over Arhan Gupta and Simon Phillip of Union in the consolation bracket.
Junior
Pharell Longenbach and freshman
Oscar Woods also picked up a doubles victory. After a loss in their opening match in the "C" draw, they captured a 6-4 decision over a pair of teammates – junior
Cameron Longa and Weglinski – in the consolation bracket.
The Rangers are back in action on Oct. 1, when they host Division II Kutztown University in a non-conference match.
