Why did you choose Drew University?
While I was in high school I used to compete at Drew during the winter track season. I remember always going on runs through the campus and falling in love with it. After going to the first visit I knew it was the right choice for me and running here was a plus!
Why did you choose your major and what is your favorite course?
I am majoring in Biology and I chose it because I love to know the functions of the human body. My favorite course thus far has to be the labs that come along with my classes. Having lab allows me to be hands on and putting the material that we learn in lecture to work.
What is your most memorable moment as a Ranger?
My most memorable moment as a Ranger has to be competing in the Fordham Fiasco meet. This race by far was nothing I had ever experienced before and there was intense competition. The majority of the race took place going up steep hills and after finishing it was such an incredible feeling. Completing this race alongside my teammates was such an accomplishment.
How has being an athlete helped you as a student and in the classroom?
Being a student athlete teaches you how to manage your time and work well with a group of people. The coaches also make sure that you are on track academically and help you excel off the field.
What is the most difficult part of your sport?
The most difficult part of cross country is pushing yourself because this sport is a large mental game against yourself. Beginning every race you know that there is a certain amount of mileage that you have to complete. Sometimes looking at the course and knowing how much you have to run to finish the race is pretty intimidating. You have to be self motivated and rely on your mind to push and finish!
Why do you wear your jersey number?
In cross country we don’t have jersey numbers, but we receive race numbers at every meet! After every meet I save my number and keep them as souvenirs. It’s amazing to see how many you gather over time and realize that you actually competed in that many races.
What advice do you have for a prospective Drew University student-athlete?
If you have the opportunity to become a student-athlete then definitely do so. I have met some of my best friends on this team that will definitely last a lifetime. The friends I have made are irreplaceable and help you through anything. Also the memories that come with being a student-athlete are incredible.
Why is community service important to your role as a student-athlete at Drew?
Community service is something that I always try to do. Whether it is volunteering around the community or donating money in races that I’ve competed in, it always feels good to give back.
Name one obstacle or form of adversity you have had to overcome...
One obstacle the team had to overcome was rebuilding. The team had a struggle of maintaining a solid amount of teammates with injuries popping up, but in the end we had a solid small team that truly cared for the sport. We supported each other and wanted to finish strong. This upcoming season has a bright outlook and we plan on coming back stronger than ever!
