A 2011 graduate of Lasalle University earning a degree in Psychology, Umstead joins Head Coach Brian Hirschberg for his first season on the Rangers bench. The Perkasie, Pa. native comes to Drew after a four-year playing career under Mike Lake at LaSalle. Primarily an outfielder, Umstead made 73 starts and appeared in 108 games for the Division I Explorers. His junior season he batted .301 and led the team in triples, outfield assists and tied for a team-high 14-game hitting streak.
Umstead was a two-sport start at Pennridge High School in football and baseball. He was an All-Suburban Conference selection at both second base and outfield.
