Howlett's Hockey Hat Trick Hammers Ospreys

Drew 5, Stockton 0

The Drew Rangers toppled the Richard Stockton Ospreys, 5-0, Wednesday Night in Madison.  Sophomore Megan Howlett scored twice in the first half and once in the second half for the hat trick.  Nicole DiBattista and Sarah Charles also picked up goals for the Rangers.  Stockton Keeper, Debi O'Kane made 12 saves for the Ospreys as they fall to 3-10 on year.  Drew improved to 10-4.

The Rangers got on the board early when Nicole DiBattista scored her 8th of the year.  The Ranger offense earned a corner, and a perfect combination of the insert by Kati Eggert and stick stop by Melissa Kistle led to DiBattista's crack in the 6th minute of the match.

Less than 10 minutes later in the first half, Megan Howlett ripped a shot a few yards in front of the Stockton's nationally-ranked keeper, Debi O'Kane.  The keeper made the save, but Howlett stuck with the rebound off O'Kane's pads before netting her 9th goal of the season.

Howlett scored her 10th of the season just minutes later. Senior Capitain Elizabeth Law charged down the field picking apart the Osprey defense and left a perfect cross for Howlett to rip at the net.  The Rangers took 16 shots in the half.  Their defense shut down the Ospreys allowing them just one shot.

The second half started out the same for the Rangers.  The offense didn't waste much time as Drew took a shot outside the circle; Howlett picked up the ball and tipped it wide of the goal.  Sarah Charles found herself in the right spot as she came off the post and knocked the ball in for Drew's fourth goal of the match.

The Ospreys spent a little more time in Ranger territory in the second half.  They had chances at the net, including a corner insert that Gillian Terreri turned into a dangerous shot which initially beat keeper, Stef Rutkowski.  Luckily, Hannah Rau was there to make the defensive save and ensure the shutout for the Rangers.

Despite the pesky Ospreys' late game advances the Rangers were able to add to their lead.  Megan Howlett wasn't done yet and picked up the hat trick in the 55th minute.  Law found Howlett in traffic in front of the net to pick up her team leading 8th assist of the season.  The sophomore picked out the corner of the net for her third of the game and the 5-0 lead.

O'Kane's 12 saves to bring her season total to an impressive 137.  Lauren Fasano and Rutkowski split time in the net and combined for two saves.  The Rangers outshot the Ospreys 26-3 in the match.

Next up is Drew's biggest game of the season this Saturday at Ranger Stadium, against Landmark Conference rival, Juniata.  Richard Stockton also returns to NJAC conference action this Saturday October 17th on the road against William Paterson.
